Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a great place for students to grow in faith and learning.

Led by caring staff committed to sharing the Catholic faith with students in partnership with families, our welcoming community supports students and staff to thrive. We value each student as an individual and share the values of the Gospel to help them discover the hope that is within and to experience a meaningful and flourishing life.

Students in our school come from a variety of religious backgrounds and beliefs - a student will not feel out of place if they do not share the Catholic faith.

Sharing our Catholic tradition

We ensure that students come to know Jesus Christ through the promotion of Catholic tradition and teaching. Faith experiences are woven throughout the life of the school and school values, and are realised within the Religious Education program, liturgy, prayer, reflection, religious symbolism, Feast Days and social justice activities to reach out to those most in need.

Our school community prays the Angelus (traditional midday prayer) together each day and the Rosary during October. Students also lead prayer at school assemblies.

We cherish our relationship with the extended Carmelite community and strengthened this partnership through Carmel Impact and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Our school appoints staff parish partners who support families to prepare children for their Catholic sacraments and grow in faith.

In partnership with our local parish, there are also many chances to attend Mass, with opportunities for students to become altar servers.

Celebrating our faith

We place great importance on the contribution of visual and performing arts to the liturgical life of our school. Live music, singing, drama, symbols, visual art works and liturgical movement are incorporated into celebrations, providing meaningful and relevant faith experiences for young people.

Our annual God Day brings the whole school community together to read and contemplate scripture. From our reflections, we create a vibrant school wide display and participate in a school reflection walk. We also celebrate our annual Feast Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

In addition to our parish, our school's “Catholic Corner” is an intentional space that serves as an engaging visual reminder of our Catholic identity.

Religious Education

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our specialist teachers share their faith and example with students, helping them to flourish as they develop specific knowledge, understanding, skills and strong values, with Christ as the centre. With a strong curriculum, students learn to integrate an authentic faith perspective to human relationships and the daily issues of life.

Our Religious Education program builds upon student’s sense of their Catholic identity by embedding traditions, values and Christ's teaching in the heart of school life. Throughout their school journey, students immerse themselves in the sacred practice of prayer and interpreting scripture.

Year 6 students love attending the ‘Encounter’ experience, a contemporary faith celebration with students from around the diocese.

Social justice initiatives

Our social justice program is guided by our call to put 'Faith in Action,' inspiring students to live out the values of our Colour House patrons: Prophet Elijah, Cardinal Norman Gilroy, St Mary MacKillop, and Venerable Catherine McAuley.

Social justice initiatives are led by our Year 6 Colour House Leaders and Year 2-5 Student Representative Council (SRC) members, with the entire school participating through their Colour House groups.

In recent years, students have participated in outreach and fundraising for the following organisations:

  • Project Compassion/Caritas Australia
  • Carmel Impact Crisis Appeal
  • Vinnies Winter & Christmas Appeals
  • Annual Christmas Mission Initiative and Giving Tree
  • Nursing home pen pals
  • Hampers for housebound parishioners
  • Serving at parish morning teas.

Our reconciliation strategy

Schools in the Diocese of Parramatta are at the beginning of an important journey, endeavouring to make significant contributions to reconciliation within the community, locally and nationally.

Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) recently launched its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We will be guided by the CSDP RAP as we work to embed practices that further support members of our learning community who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, engage meaningfully and respectfully with members of the local Aboriginal community, and make contributions to the national journey towards reconciliation.
